Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to start taking classes at the Hybrid Driving School?

You have to be at least 15 years, 9 months and 1 day old. This is the RMV requirement.

What do I need to do to complete my driving education requirements?

- 30 hours of classroom instructions (15 classroom lessons)
- 6 hours of observation
- 12 hours of driving lessons
- 2 hours of parental/guardian classroom instruction
- 40 hours of driving with parents/guardians

Where can I find the schedule of classes?

Please, go to our website http://www.Hybriddrivingschools.com and click on schedule.

 Can I pre-register?

Yes, you can pre-register for classroom instructions by coming to our office between 9AM and 3:30PM, Monday-Friday. It is better to pre-register, since it guarantees you a spot in the class. You do NOT need to pre-register for parental/guardian 2-hour class.

 Can I just show up?

Yes. You can just show up, but there is no guarantee that there will be a spot available for class. The students who have pre-registered have priority. Note that you do NOT need to pre-register for parent/guardian 2-hour class.

What should I bring to classes?

Please, always bring your white appointment card with you. Do not lose it.

The classes start promptly at the given time; please, do not be late.

There is no food and drink allowed during driving lessons (with the exception of water).

For how many hours a day can I take classes?

RMV sets the following restrictions:

- You may not take more than 6 hours of driving education a day.
- You may not take more than 2 hours of driving and/or observation in a given day.
- You need to have at least a 24 hour break between your driving lessons.

Due to these restrictions, if you are enrolled in the intensive course, you may not drive or observe during the week of your classroom instructions.

How do I schedule my driving lessons?

Once you have finished all of your classroom hours, we will assign you a driving instructor. The instructor’s name and phone number will be written on your white appointment card. Please call your instructor and schedule the meetings with him. You should call the school only if you have problems with your instructor.

Where is the pick-up and drop off for the driving lessons?

The pick-up locations include most of Hybrid Driving School and the Waltham area. The location of the drop-off should be negotiated between you and your driving instructor.

How much is a private driving class?

A private driving class is $45 per hour (60 minutes).

Do I need to have driven with my parents before starting driving lessons with the instructor?

Yes, we recommend that you have driven with your parents for at least 15-20 hours before starting to drive with your instructor. Please, record your driving hours with your parents on the Student Log Handout, which is available in our office.

How do I find out that I have received my Driving Education Certificate?

Once you have completed all the requirements, you should hand in your appointment card. After 10 days, you can check whether RMV has received your information online. Please go to our website: http://www.Hybriddrivingschools.com. Click on the useful links on the left side. The third link will take you to the RMV page on which you can check whether they have posted your certificate. Note: we do not mail the certificates to your homes.

When can I schedule a road test?

Once the RMV has received your certificate and 6 months have passed since you got your permit, you may take the road test.

How can I schedule a road test?

We highly recommend that you take the road test with us. 95% of our students choose to take the road with us, and 95% pass the test their first time. There are many benefits of taking the test with us. We take care of all the logistical problems for you. We will register you for the test and provide the car that complies with the RMV requirements. You will be driving the same car that you used during your driving lessons, and you will be familiar with the area, since it is the same area where you have practiced with your driving instructor.

We schedule road tests for Saturday mornings at Hybrid Driving School. To register, please give us a week in advance notice and give us a check for $80.00
If you choose not to take the test with us, then, you will have to call the RMV and schedule your own appointment. You will also have to provide a car that complies with the RMV requirements, and you may have to drive in an unfamiliar area.

Whether or not you take the test with us, the RMV will charge you $70 for your license. Please call 617-351-4500 to pay or drop off the check in person at the RMV. To get your temporary license right away, you have to pre-pay before Tuesday, 5 days before your test. If you have not pre-paid, wait at least 3 days after your road test before you pay in person to the RMV (It takes RMV some time to record that you have passed your road test).

Your permanent license will be mailed to you by the RMV.

What should I do if RMV has failed to send me my license?

If you have not received your license within 12 days of passing the road test and you have paid $70 to the RMV, please call RMV at 617-351-4500 and ask for a supervisor.

Where can I get a copy of the RMV Driver’s Manual?

- To view the manual online, go to http://www.mass.gov/rmv/dmnual/index.htm

- To get a hard copy of the manual, you will have to pick it up at one of the RMV branches.

Can you send my certificate to my insurance agent?

Unfortunately, we do not mail certificates. You may print out a proof of receiving a certificate at https://secure.rmv.state.ma.us/DriverEdLookup/driverlookup.aspx.
If you have received your license before the age of 18, you have had to complete driving education.
